The Close-Up Portrait
What makes this portrait different
The Close-Up Portrait is the most intimate Modern style. It crops tightly to your pet's face, places the eyes in sharp focus and lets everything else fall away into a clean backdrop. Light is shaped to bring out texture, catchlights and expression, so the portrait feels direct and alive. It is all about the look you would know anywhere.
A heartfelt gift for anyone who can't resist that particular look from their pet.

Photo guidance
The best portraits begin with a clear, characterful photo. You don't need a professional camera: a good phone photo is perfect. Send it as you order or after checkout, whichever suits you.
For this style: Sharpness is everything here: choose a photo where the eyes are crisply in focus and well lit, ideally taken at your pet's eye level. Avoid filters, heavy shadows across the face and very wide-angle phone shots.
What works best
- Use natural daylight, ideally near a window or outdoors
- Take the photo at your pet's eye level
- Make sure the eyes are sharp and clearly visible
- Choose a photo that shows their true colouring and markings
- Send the original, full-resolution image
What to avoid
- Filters, heavy edits or beauty effects
- Blurry or low-light photos
- Harsh shadows across the face
- Screenshots or images forwarded through messaging apps, which can lose detail
- Photos where the face is partly hidden by objects, people or other pets
Frame options
Every portrait is framed in solid wood with a 21 mm moulding, shatter-resistant acrylic glazing and an MDF backing, ready to hang. The A4 can also stand on a shelf or desk.
Black
A deep, crisp finish that draws a sharp, graphic outline around your portrait. Ideal for contemporary interiors, pale walls and gallery arrangements.
Oak
A warm, natural wood tone that softens the edges of a room. Lovely with timber floors, gentle palettes and relaxed, layered spaces.
White
A clean, bright finish that lets the portrait breathe. Beautiful on painted walls and in light, airy rooms.

FAQ
Can I use a photo of my pet's whole body?
Yes, as long as the face is sharp and clear enough to enlarge. A photo taken closer to your pet's face will usually give finer detail in the eyes and fur.
Is the Close-Up good for pets with distinctive markings?
Very much so. Facial markings, brow patterns and unusual eye colours are shown at their most striking in this tightly framed style.
Which frame suits a close-up?
Black heightens the contrast and focus of the face; White keeps it light and airy; Oak adds warmth, especially for golden, ginger or brown coats.
Do I need a photo to order?
No. You can upload it on the order form, or choose “Send it later” and reply to the email we send after checkout. If it isn't suitable, we'll ask for another before we start, and we send your private proof within 2 working days of receiving it.
What makes a good photo?
A sharp, well-lit photo taken at your pet's eye level, with the eyes clearly visible and the face unobstructed. Natural daylight is ideal. Avoid filters, heavy shadows, blur and very small or tightly cropped images. Each style also has its own photo tip on its product page.
Will it look like my pet?
That is the whole point. We focus on the features that make your pet recognisable: their eyes, markings, colouring and expression. If your proof doesn't capture them, our Likeness Promise means we correct it at no cost.
Can I make changes to my proof?
Yes. Likeness corrections are covered: if your proof misses their eyes, markings, colouring or expression, we correct it at no cost. One style adjustment is included too, such as warming the background, brightening the image or refining a small detail. Nothing is printed until you approve your portrait.
Can my pet's name be added to the artwork?
Yes, free of charge. Tick the name option on the order form and type the name exactly as you would like it to appear, up to 20 characters. You'll see it on your digital proof before anything is printed.
What sizes are available?
Three sizes, measured as the finished frame: A4 240 × 327 mm (9.4 × 12.9 in), A3 327 × 450 mm (12.9 × 17.7 in) and A2 450 × 624 mm (17.7 × 24.6 in). Every frame is 22 mm deep. Use the size guide on the order form to see them to scale.
What is the frame made from? Is there glass?
A solid wood moulding, 21 mm wide, in a Black, White or Oak finish. Instead of glass we use shatter-resistant 2 mm acrylic glazing, with an MDF backing. Every size has a fixed hanger for the wall, and the A4 also has a stand for a shelf or desk. The artwork is a giclée print with 12-colour pigment inks on 240 gsm matt archival paper.
How long does delivery take?
Free Royal Mail 48 Tracked delivery to the UK. We send your proof within 2 working days of receiving your photo; once approved, your portrait is printed, framed and packed in 3–5 working days and usually arrives 2–5 working days later.
Christmas: order by 8 December and approve your proof by 10 December.
Can I include more than one pet?
Each portrait features one pet. If you share your home with more than one companion, you could order a portrait for each, in matching or complementary styles.
